About Me

I'm really passionate about making the Web a better place with Inclusive Design and Development. I like to say I'm a meta web developer, building accessibility tools for other developers and doing talks and writing about them. I have a course on Egghead.io, Start Building Web Applications Today. I'm in the process of expanding it: https://egghead.io/courses/start-building-accessible-web-applications-today

My blog, Accessibility Wins, highlights good things happening on the web: http://a11ywins.tumblr.com

I'm also a local chapter leader for Girl Develop It Bellingham, starting in 2017 (previously I co-led in Seattle)-it's a nonprofit that empowers women in software development. Before this, I worked on accessibility full-time on the Angular Material project, a UI framework built by Google, where I contributed an accessibility plugin for Protractor and spent quite a bit of time with Angular's ngAria module.

There was a point when I didn't know about accessibility, and I had to learn the basics. I heard about it working at POP Agency in Seattle and thought it was really cool I could make a difference for people with disabilities on the Web. A few jobs later, I now work remotely for an accessibility-focused company, Deque Systems, and I love it (pronounced DQ, like a Blizzard).

I left Seattle recently to move next to a forest in northern Washington to hike and ride mountain bikes and snowboards. Best decision I ever made. Balance in your life is so important! I'm passionate about nature, dual-sport motorcycles, dogs, and powder days. What are your goals and dreams, and how do you give back to the world?
